THE YUROK TRIBE CASA PROGRAM
The Yurok Tribe has a CASA Program (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Yurok children in Foster Care Placement. The Yurok Tribe is currently recruiting Yurok Tribal Members who are interested in being advocates for Yurok Children in the Foster Care system.
These advocates monitor the child's placement in Foster Care and speaks on behalf of the child in prepared reports to the Court and during court hearings. The program operates in both Humboldt and Del Norte County courts, in addition, to the Yurok Tribal Court.
The CASA Advocate remains in contact with the child throughout their placement in Foster Care. Although, placement, attorneys and the child's situation may change during this time, the CASA Advocate's contact with the child during Foster Care placement is a stable influence on the life of the child. Children in Foster Care who have a CASA Advocate have more productive, stable and confident child.
